Skin Creams

Scientists say:

Your skin is the largest ORGAN of your body!

The Skin is the first thing that people notice about us.  It is the basis for true beauty.  Most of all, it is our first line of defense for keeping us well.

About the Skin

Scientific studies show that “Both the lung and the skin are barrier organs whose job is to keep what's inside in and what's outside out," says Raphael Kopan, Ph.D., professor of developmental biology and of medicine in the Division of Dermatology.  Kopan says that this system is an excellent example of the way processes in the body are integrated.  "When something on one part of the body is acting improperly, the entire system becomes aware of it."

Your whole body is integrated to function as one to remain healthy.  It is also made to heal itself naturally.  Dutch researcher Dr. Manon Franssen has shown that cells which heal the skin following an injury play an important role in the skin being able to continue in keeping us healthy.

The Job of the Skin

·      Protects your vital organs from harmful germs and bacteria.

·     Helps to maintain your body temperature by not allowing its heat to escape too quickly.

·      Stores essential nutrients for future protection.

·      Protects your organs and body tissues from injuries.

·     Keeps your vital body fluids (blood, water and lymph) from evaporating.

·      The nerves in your skin tell the brain when you are being touched and also the difference between hot and cold. If these nerves were damaged you would not know if the bath water was too hot.

·      Your skin will respond to how you are feeling. It will show happiness, sadness, pain and joy. Life stresses will take its toll and show on your skin.

·      Your skin reacts to hot and cold and light and dark.

The Skin Layers

The two upper layers of the skin are called the epidermis and the germination layers, and together they make up the skin's essential defense system. The third layer is called subcutaneous fat.

Epidermis

This is the outer layer containing two vital components these being water and sebaceous oils. These two components work together to support and protect your skin. Water helps to keep your skin supple. The sebaceous glands produce oils that cover the skin that act as a reflector and a defense shield. That is holding the skins moisture in and helping to keep skin soft and flexible. However once moisture is drawn from the outer layer the oils will not restore your skins quality. Water will do this, so drink plenty!

Germination

The germination layer is under the epidermis layer and is actually the deeper layer of the epidermis, resting on the corium (dermis). This layer needs different looking after, it does not use water and oils like the epidermis. This layer of cells takes its required nutrients like the rest of the body. It is affected by what we eat. Hence if a poor diet is consumed it will show in your face likewise if a good diet is consumed then our skin will show this. The intake of alcohol, nicotine and drugs will show.

Subcutaneous

This is the bottom layer of your skin. This layer is made up of fat-filled cells call adipose cells, and the depth of the subcutaneous fat layer is different from one person to another. If you have too much subcutaneous fat then cellulite will appear.
